Come September each year, the Eliminators Hot Rod and American Car Club host a car show and swap meet at Beenleigh Showgrounds. Open to hot rods and chrome bumpers cars with a few late models included, the event is one of the largest on the SE QLD calendar, packing the showgrounds to capacity and showing no signs of slowing.

Established in 1993, the club has hosted the show since its earliest days, harnessing the support of the Logan City community by actively supporting other community events and local charities. Dozens of sponsors support the event, this year R&J Batteries (www.rjbatt.com.au) stepped up to play a major role.

The moderately sized swap meet provides early morning entertainment, offering a little bit of everything to the punters. A bacon and egg roll and a coffee is a good half time break before taking in the show which is at full capacity by 9am. It’s a crowd scene until lunch time when, typical of most Queensland car shows, the cars start to thin out in search of shade. Awards including Top Ten are handed out around 1pm and by 2pm it’s all over for another year.

No sooner than the dust had settled, the club arranged for part proceeds to go to its selected charities, handing over $2,000 to long term beneficiary Family & Kids Care, $2,000 to In-SYNC Youth Service and $1,500 to the SES. President Wayne McGregor informs that the club has given out over $100,000 in donations over the last 22 years.
